The Players Trust Supports Venezuela Earthquake Relief Efforts
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela. In response, the Players Trust is donating $100,000 to trusted organizations supporting disaster relief and recovery efforts.
As a reminder, the Double Play Matching Gift is available to active MLB Players who make personal donations to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits supporting disaster relief and recovery. The Players Trust will match eligible gifts up to $3,000 per active MLB player, per year, and up to $500 per active MiLB player, per year. Matching gift requests can be submitted through the Double Play Matching Gift site.
During an active disaster response, financial contributions to reputable relief organizations are often the most useful and flexible way to support recovery efforts. While in-kind donations such as supplies, water, or equipment are well intentioned, they can be difficult to transport, sort, and distribute quickly in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. A number of organizations are doing important work on the ground, and below is a vetted list of several organizations supporting relief and recovery efforts:
Direct Relief
-
Medical response and emergency health supplies
World Central Kitchen
-
Food and meals for impacted families
Global Empowerment Mission
-
Disaster logistics and emergency supplies and local partner response
The Wayuu Taya Foundation
-
Indigenous communities and vulnerable families
