STEM League at Spring Training
February-March 2023

The Trust and several Players joined 60+ educators for a very special opportunity across a multi-day activation in Arizona and Florida during Spring Training. The educators representing Phoenix and Tampa Bay area schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Parks and Rec. centers, were given an opportunity to train on MLB Players STEM League, our youth development tool that supports middle school age math comprehension and social emotional development through a board game and curriculum.

All participating educators will receive the STEM League program for FREE so they may share the resource with their students. In addition to reaching hundreds of youths across the state of Arizona and Florida, the program is expected to impact more than 10,000 underserved students across the country, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America.

The program took place at the MLBPA’s new office in Scottsdale and at the Police Athletic League of St. Petersburg. A few star educators also received a behind the scenes look at Spring Training games between the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks in Arizona including a private meet and greet with Austin Slater, Mike Yastrzemski, Heliot Ramos as well as non-roster invitee and Bay area native, Trevor Hildenberger, as well as between the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates in Florida including a private meet and greet with Kyle Schwarber, Alec Bohm, Darick Hall, Edmundo Sosa, Bryson Stott, and Garrett Stubbs.

Inaugural STEM League Colombia Championship 2022

On November 6 and 7, the Players Trust and our nonprofit partners, Learn Fresh and Project Beisbol, hosted the inaugural MLB Players STEM League Colombia Championship. More than 60 students went head-to-head in competitions in Bogotá and Cúcuta, showing off their math skills and good sportsmanship. Participants also received a special message from Major Leaguers Jose Quintana and Harold Ramirez.

We are thrilled to continue to expand MLB Players STEM League throughout Latin America and offer this program to many more incredible students! Learn Fresh’s Coach Nessah described it best:

“Learning paired with play transcends any language or cultural barriers created by today's world. The students in both Bogotá and Cúcuta were so excited to show off their STEM League skills and knowledge of baseball... and did they! Many walked in with their game faces on, yet didn't hold back on sportsmanship one bit. The amount of gratitude expressed by the students, their parents and coaches was absolutely unmatched.”
