During Spring Training, the Players Trust expanded its STEM League initiative globally, hosting its inaugural event in Tokyo, Japan during the Dodgers – Cubs opening series. Thirty-two students gathered at ABeamConsulting’s headquarters for a unique opportunity to engage with baseball royalty, and put their math, strategy, and teamwork skills to the test in an exciting board game tournament.
Presented in part by Amatek, the tournament featured several special guests. Celebrated Japanese baseball broadcaster Yuji Kondo served as master of ceremonies, and attendees were honored by by the appearance of Masanori “Mashi” Murakami – the FIRST Japanese player to compete in Major League Baseball.
Adding to the excitement, pitchers Yuki Matsui (San Diego Padres) and Shinnosuke Ogasawara (Washington Nationals) delivered inspirational messages to the students.
The team from Kaisei Academy emerged as tournament champions, earning custom handmade baseball bats provided by Players Trust partner Overfly Sports.
The experience did not end there! Nozomi & Hayato were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go on field at the Tokyo Dome to meet with 2024 World Series Champion Manager, Dave Roberts while also receiving high fives, congratulations and photo opportunities with Tommy Edman, Miguel Rojas, Blake Treinen, and Kirby Yates of the Dodgers, and Takumu Nakano of the Hanshin Tigers organization.
The Players Trust extends a heartfelt thank you to ABeam’s CEO, Takahiro Yamada, and Ametek Japan’s CEO, David Zapico, for their support throughout the Japan activation.
