Considered one of the greatest home run hitters and most feared sluggers of any era, Josh Gibson left an undeniable legacy of greatness and accomplishment. The Josh Gibson Foundation believes in the endless possibilities for potential in today's youth – by providing academic and athletic programs that foster leadership and scholarship, the skills necessary for tomorrow's successes are created today.​

The Legacy

2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of Josh Gibson’s induction into the Hall of Fame. Scroll through the below to learn more about his legacy and be sure to visit www.joshgibson.org.

Gibson was born on December 21, 1911 in Buena Vista, Georgia. He moved to Pittsburgh's North Side with his family ten years later after his father found work in the steel mills.

The Program

Youth Essay Contest

 

Students, ages 12-15, will submit a written or video response to a question on role models – how their role models inspire greatness and instill the value of giving back to others. 3 winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprised of Major League Players.

Virtual Legacy Day

​

3 winners to receive a private invitation to join the distinguished panel of judges for an exclusive virtual event. Winners will talk with judges about the importance of building a positive legacy on and off the field as well as receive custom player packs with autographed swag.
