Phillies pitcher awarded $10,000 grant to support his work on behalf of veterans and ALS research

NEW YORK, May 14 – The Players Trust, the charitable arm of the Major League Baseball Players Association, announced today that Phillies star pitcher Aaron Nola is the next Most Valuable Philanthropist of 2025. The Players Trust will award a $10,000 grant in Nola’s honor to recognize his tireless work  on behalf of the ALS Association and his support of veterans through his work with Team Red, White and Blue, among other charitable initiatives.

During the 2024 season, Nola donated $1,000 per strikeout to Team Red, White and Blue, contributing a total of $197,000 for his 197 Ks. Nola has also helped raise $250,000 for ALS research with Strike Out ALS bowling tournaments around the country, and in 2025, the ALS Association honored him with its annual Volunteer Impact Award.

“Aaron’s dedication to using his time, voice and platform to uplift others has made a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of others,” said Players Trust Executive Director Amy Hever. “The Players Trust is proud to recognize and further support his extraordinary efforts by presenting him with the second MVP Award of the 2025 season.”

On Thursday, Nola will continue his work with Team Red, White and Blue by hosting his first annual Charity Poker Tournament at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. In addition to playing poker, attendees will have the chance to enjoy cocktails, local bites, prizes, ballpark tours, on-field photo opportunities and more, while raising money for one of the nation’s leading veteran service organizations.

“I’m honored to receive this award and grateful for the support of the Players Trust,” said Nola. “Giving back to those who have served our country in uniform and fighting to discover a cure for ALS are causes close to my heart, and I’m committed to continuing my support for both Team Red, White and Blue and the ALS Association.”

The Players Trust’s Most Valuable Philanthropist award will be given six times this season to Players who demonstrate an altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond. Each winner receives a $10,000 grant from the Players Trust to his chosen charity.

For over 25 years, Players have been committed to making a difference by contributing their funding, time, talent and passion to help communities in need and encouraging others to get involved. Through the Players Trust, Players have supported a wide range of programs, granting tens of millions of dollars to make a positive impact on the lives of fans and youth organizations.
